Shannon Calhoun, 47, of Bridgeport, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after he was found in possession of a .40 caliber handgun on May 22.
At the time of his arrest, Calhoun was also in possession of approximately eight pounds of marijuana and hundreds of dollars in cash. Officers also found several high capacity and drum style magazines and an assault-type pistol with a threaded barrel to accept a suppressor.
U.S. Attorney John Durham said that Calhoun sustained state felony convictions for sale of narcotics, assault in the first degree, larceny in the second degree, weapon in a motor vehicle; burglary, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of narcotics, criminal possession of a weapon, and failure to appear in court.
Durham noted that it is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
If convicted, Calhoun faces up to 10 years in prison.
